Owens will receive roster bonus

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday that he will pay wide receiver Terrell Owens the $3 million roster bonus he is due on June 3. "Yes, we are going to have Terrell back,' Jones tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Owens will be entering the final year of a three-year, $25 million deal. This news comes as no surprise. There were rumors at this time last year that the Cowboys might release Owens prior to the 2007 season, but his huge year leaves this next round in little doubt.

Garrett has second meeting

Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett met with Ravens officials Tuesday morning, his second interview with the team. He is considered the leading candidate for the post vacated when Brian Billick was fired following the season. Garrett is also slated for a second interview with the Falcons on Tuesday, but the Ravens may not let him leave town until they have his signature on a contract.

Glenn has swelling in quadriceps

Terry Glenn did some individual drills last week but hopes to join his teammates in practice this week. Recovering from two knee surgeries, he's dealing with swelling his right quadriceps, according to the Dallas Morning News. He could have the quad drained if it bothers him during the week. Even he makes it back for either of the last two games, it would be surprising if he actually contributed in fantasy terms.

X-rays on Romo's thumb negative

The hand injury Tony Romo sustained Sunday was to his thumb. X-rays came back negative, though offensive coordinator Jason Garrett said it was only as a precaution, according to the Dallas Morning News. While the injury doesn't appear to be too serious, it still could affect his throwing ability during the final couple of weeks.

Henry out for Week 5

The Cowboys do not expect cornerback Anthony Henry to play in Week 5 against the Bills. Henry suffered a high right ankle sprain last Sunday. "It's not a severe one. Normally if it's a high ankle sprain, it's like four weeks. If it's not severe, maybe it's two weeks. We're evaluating, but I think he'd be real iffy this week," head coach Wade Phillips tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The Cowboys also still have an issue at the other corner, where Terence Newman is dealing with a partial tear of his plantar fascia. Maybe Lee Evans and the Bills can take advantage on Monday night.

Henry to undergo MRI

Cowboys cornerback Anthony Henry suffered a high right ankle sprain during the first quarter on Sunday. X-rays were negative, but he will undergo an MRI on Monday. "I was going to try and come back and play," Henry tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We'll check it out and see what's up. Everything will be cool." Henry played through a knee injury in 2006, so we know he can handle pain. However, he's been a much, much better corner this season when healthy. If both Henry and Terence Newman are forced to hobble through injuries, the Cowboys secondary could be vulnerable.

Ellis reworks deal

Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis made his season debut on Sunday, and the timing makes more sense after what we learned later in the day. Agent Butch Williams was in Dallas over the weekend, and the Cowboys reportedly worked out a restructured contract for Ellis, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The veteran's contract still runs through 2009, but a portion of his base salary has been converted into bonuses. Ellis has been complaining about his contract for many months. Heck, he's been whining for over a year. Ellis isn't fully over the torn left Achilles he suffered last November, and he is not a good IDP guy right now.

Ellis to play

Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis is active and will play on Sunday against the Rams. He has been out since the first day of training camp due to left heel bursitis, a condition related to the torn Achilles he suffered last November. Ellis will likely be limited in his role, but the Cowboys will just be happy to get him back. He'll help upgrade that defense as the season continues. Ellis doesn't have any IDP value.

Ellis shows positive signs

Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis worked out hard on Wednesday and gave the team some hope that he might be able to return in Week 4. "I am going to see how much I can do," Ellis tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "That's the plan." He is dealing with left heel bursitis, which is likely related to the torn left Achilles he had repaired last November. Anthony Spencer is starting in his place. We don't expect Ellis to return this Sunday, but this is the first positive sign in a long time. Ellis has been a boon to IDP leagues in the past, but he's not worth adding this year.

Gramatica dropped from IR list

Martin Gramatica was dropped from Dallas's injured reserve list Tuesday, freeing him up to find other work if he can. Gramatica didn't have much of a summer, battling a hamstring injury and losing out on the starting job to rookie kicker Nick Folk.

Another big day for Barber

Cowboys running back Marion Barber rushed 15 times for 102 yards and a touchdown and caught a 10-yard scoring pass in Sunday night's win over the Bears. He has now scored 21 times over the last 18 games. At this point, fantasy owners should never bench Barber. The Cowboys offense is clicking, and Marion is a good bet to continue finding the end zone every single week.

Newman improving

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman was limited again on Wednesday, but he practiced more than he had in past weeks. He has been out since mid-August due to a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right heel. "We are a lot more positive as far as his chances this week," head coach Wade Phillips tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "He moved around a lot better." Jacques Reeves has been starting his place. The Cowboys are a much better defense when a healthy Newman is locking down one corner. We don't believe he'll be 100 percent all season, though, and it's just a matter of how much pain he can handle.

Tank Johnson signs

The Cowboys signed defensive tackle Tank Johnson to a two-year deal on Tuesday. He was released by the Bears on June 25 and still has six games left on an eight-game suspension, the Dallas Morning News confirms. The Cowboys need help at defensive tackle after losing Jason Ferguson for the season, and this move could pay off big down the road. There's no IDP value here.

Crayton expects to play

Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton was wearing a splint on his right hand on Monday. He dislocated his right pinky during Sunday's win over the Dolphins. The dislocation broke through the skin and required four stitches, but Crayton returned to the game. He plans to practice this week and suit up against the Bears, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. A healthy Crayton would not be a good start against the tough Bears, and this injury gives fantasy owners even more reason to bench him.

Phillips to keep backfield committee

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips once again deflected questions on Monday about Marion Barber being the backup to the less-productive Julius Jones. The coach isn't ready to make a change. "I see everybody's point that Marion's doing some great things for us and that's what we hoped he'll do," Phillips tells the team's official web site. "But (Jones) is doing some good things for us, too. And we're featuring (Barber) on the 1-yard line. You're going to get more touchdowns when you get it on the 1. But we feel like he's strong in that already and he's proven that already. He's done it last year. But I think it's working the way we're doing it." The Cowboys are 2-0, have scored 84 points, and are averaging 154 yards rushing. What's the problem? Barber continues to look like the better running back, but the Cowboys have no reason to risk his health to 25 carries when 15 gets the job done.

Suspended Johnson to visit

The Cowboys will host defensive tackle Tank Johnson on Tuesday, and he will undergo a physical. "I'm here to work some things out," Johnson tells the team's official web site. "I'm looking here for a fresh start." The former Bears defender is not eligible to play until November 3. He was released on June 25. The Cowboys could use the depth at nose tackle after losing Jason Ferguson, but obviously this move is more interesting in NFL circles than in fantasy leagues.

Crayton returns after dislocating pinky

Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton dislocated his right pinky finger during the first half of Sunday's win over the Dolphins. "I just heard it snap, and when I get up off the ground I looked at it and said, 'That's not right,'" he tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Crayton received stitches and returned in the second half. He had a 49-yard punt return in the third quarter. Crayton did not have a catch on Sunday, which was disappointing to fantasy owners. He obviously had a finger issue to deal with, though.

Glenn out four-to-six weeks

The Cowboys did not provide a specific timetable for wide receiver Terry Glenn's return following Thursday's right knee surgery. However, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram pointed to a possible four-to-five-week window, and the Dallas Morning News offered a four-to-six-week timeframe. Glenn had cartilage removed from behind his kneecap. Patrick Crayton will continue to start and be a low-end but useful fantasy player. Given that Glenn has now undergone two right knee surgeries in about six weeks, we don't put much stock in these timetables.

Glenn undergoes knee surgery

Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn will try to play again this season. The veteran underwent right knee surgery on Thursday and opted against the microfracture operation, the Dallas Morning News reports. Glenn had a less serious procedure on his cartilage. "There's no timetable as to when, but with this procedure, they feel like he has a chance to come back and make a run at playing this season," team spokesman Rich Dalrymple says. Patrick Crayton is starting in Glenn's place. Previous reports said this operation would cause Glenn to miss another three or four weeks, but we imagine the team will update that timetable in the next day or two. Plus, we are talking about Glenn here, and three weeks can easily turn into much longer, especially considering that microfracture was an option.

Another game-time decision for Newman

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman did some light running drills and participated in some scout team drills on Wednesday. He has been out since mid-August due to a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot/heel. Newman concedes that he'll likely be a game-time decision for the foreseeable future. "Yeah, I'll give you that," he tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Newman did not play in the season opener. Jacques Reeves started in his place. It seems like this injury will hinder Newman for this entire season. Or until the thing tears completely. Feel free to upgrade the Dolphins passing game this Sunday.
