Strahan dealing with sore groin

Giants defensive end Michael Strahan missed some time late in Sunday's win over the Cowboys due to a tight groin. "It was one of those situations I could go out there and risk pulling it, if we had won, which we did, wouldn't have helped next week, or I could let Dave Tollefson go in and play a little bit," he tells the New York Post. Strahan is expected to play against the Packers this weekend. Strahan will undoubtedly play this Sunday, but he shouldn't expect Brett Favre to simply lay down in front of him.

Jacobs expected back

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) is expected to return to action this week, the New York Daily News reports. He has missed the last two games. Jacobs is returning just in time to beat up on an Eagles club that has allowed four rushing touchdowns over the last two games. If he looks healthy in practice this week, he should jump right back into starting lineups.

Burress skips practice but will play

Plaxico Burress hasn't practiced this week due to his ankle injury. However, he's still expected to play on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. This is the same routine he's used in recent weeks with great success, so go ahead and start him in your fantasy lineups.

Jacobs will play

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is active for Sunday's game against the Jets. He has not played since he suffered a knee injury in Week 1. No word yet as to whether Jacobs will get the start. Either way, he is slated to split carries with Derrick Ward. The good news for Jacobs owners is that we fully expect him to get the goal line carries.

Burress starting

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is listed as the starter for Sunday's tilt with the Jets. He missed practice all week due to a sprained right ankle. Fantasy owners are accustomed to this routine by now. Burress has scored every week this season and is a must-start in all leagues.

Umenyiora misses paractice

Defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora missed his second consecutive practice on Friday, and is officially listed as questionable for this week's game against the Jets. Umenyiora, who was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, had six sacks and two forced fumbles against the Eagles last Sunday night. Umenyiora had an unbelievable game last week for the Giants, and is resting the same injury that has hampered him since the first game of the season. Expect him to play on Sunday.

Huston, Cundiff get a look

The Giants brought in kickers Josh Huston and Billy Cundiff for a tryout on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports. It's no secret that head coach Tom Coughlin isn't exactly pleased with Lawrence Tynes at this point. We'll let you know if the Giants make an actual roster move.

Jacobs ramping up

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs will see more carries in practice this week and could return Sunday against the Jets. "We will see where he is," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. "He has been cleared obviously to practice last week so we had him take X amount of reps and we will increase the reps this week and see exactly where he is, what his comfort zone is with all the maneuvers that he will have to go through." Jacobs sprained the MCL in his right knee during the second quarter of the season opener against the Cowboys. Given his injury and the solid play of Derrick Ward, the Giants can afford to bring Jacobs back slowly. We'd obviously love it if Coughlin gave us some indication of how he plans to use the two backs this Sunday, but we're not holding our breath.

Plaxico misses practice but will play

Plaxico Burress is listed as questionable for Week 4. He missed another practice on Friday due to his sprained ankle but plans to play, according to the New York Daily News. "I will play, no question about it," he said. Burress has a nasty ankle injury, but he's set to go Sunday. Of course, any setback during the game could force him to the sideline.

Jacobs not ready for Week 4

Brandon Jacobs made it through a couple of days of practice this week. However, he's not quite ready to return to action on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. "They want to make sure things are right, which I don't blame them," Jacobs said. "I'm not holding it against them because they're holding me out for this week. I want to play, but it's a long season." Derrick Ward missed practice Friday to rest his sore ankle, but barring a setback, he should be ready to play Sunday, allowing Jacobs to focus on getting heatlhy for the next game.

Ward returns

Derrick Ward returned to practice on Thursday, but was limited in practice because of his injured ankle. "He is limited today and hopefully should be ready to go," head coach Tom Coughlin told the Giants official website. No surprise here – Ward missed practice on Wednesday before declaring he'd be ready to roll on Sunday against the Eagles. He backed that up by returning to practice on Thursday and, barring a setback, he should start and get the majority of the carries.

Jacobs back at practice

Brandon Jacobs returned to practice for the first time since suffering a sprained knee during the season opener. "We are just going to gradually work him in a little bit more conditioning work, that type of thing," head coach Tom Coughlin told the team's official website. Jacobs won't play in Week 4, but it sounds like he could be ramping up for a possible return next Sunday. We'll track his progress over the next week, but it appears fantasy owners could be getting Jacobs back soon.

Ward misses practice, will play

Giants running back Derrick Ward did not practice on Wednesday due to a sore left ankle. He fully expects to play on Sunday and carry the load against the Eagles. "I'll be good. I know my body. I know I'll be able to play the whole game if they need me to on Sunday," Ward tells the team's official web site. Along with the sore ankle, Ward is coming off a 26-carry game. He might have needed Wednesday off just to let his body keep recovering. Fantasy owners can plan on using him this weekend.

Burress visiting ankle specialist

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is in Charlotte on Wednesday to visit Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist. Burress has had issues with a sprained right ankle since August 2. "He really didn't practice a whole lot last week," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. "And then, of course, when he plays, it gets sore again, and it has been a kind of a continuous nagging thing. So he is going to have it evaluated by Dr. Anderson. Hopefully (we will get) some further recommendation as to what can be done to relieve the issue." Burress had another big day in Week 3 despite barely practicing, but that's not an ideal scenario for Plax and the Giants. We'll update his status when more is known. We expect Plax to play in Week 4, but his ankle could be an issue all year.

Jacobs probably needs another week

Brandon Jacobs probably won't be able to play at least until Week 5 due to his sore knee. Derrick Ward, who's been surprisingly solid through the first three weeks, figures to start Sunday with Reuben Droughns once again getting the short-yardage work. Jacobs owners can't be thrilled with the way Ward and Droughns produced last week; Jacobs may not be thrown into a heavy-usage role right away when he returns. Stay tuned.

Ward has sore ankle

Giants running back Derrick Ward sprained his left ankle during Sunday's win over the Redskins. He stayed in the game, but he had some soreness on Monday, he tells the team's official web site. We don't believe the injury to be serious, but we'll be monitoring his status throughout the week. Ward will likely start in place of Brandon Jacobs again in Week 4.

Webster benched

Giants cornerback Corey Webster started on Sunday, but he lost time to both rookie Aaron Ross and Kevin Dockery as the game continued. "We played the other guys," head coach Tom Coughlin simply tells the Newark Star-Ledger. Coughlin declined to say if Webster was injured. The Giants spent a first-round pick on Ross almost specifically because Webster hasn't panned out. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see the rookie step into the starting lineup. There's no IDP value here.

Burress sits again

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress did not practice on Thursday due to a sprained right ankle. "He is going to go tomorrow as far as I know. He did not work today," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. We'll continue to monitor Plax's progress, and hopefully this won't come down to a game-time decision. Anthony Mix and Sinorice Moss are his backups.

Burress misses practice

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress did not practice on Wednesday, but he will reportedly practice on Thursday. He is dealing with a sprained right ankle. "He still appears to be a little bit sore," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the New York Post. Thanks for the in-depth analysis, Coach. Burress missed nearly three weeks in August due to a sprained right ankle, and the injury has now popped up again. We're a bit worried, but we imagine he will play against the Redskins.

Awasom placed on IR

The Giants placed defensive end Adrian Awasom on injured reserve on Tuesday. He fractured a traverse process in his neck in Week 2, the New York Post confirms. Awasom joins eight other Giants currently on IR, not to mention week-to-week injured guys like Brandon Jacobs and David Tyree. Depth is quickly becoming an issue at most spots for the G-Men.
