Carriker out six months

Rams defensive tackle Adam Carriker will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum muscle in his shoulder. "It's a significant injury; you're looking at sixth months," coach Scott Linehan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carriker was the team's first-round selection last April and had a solid season, especially since he was switched from defensive end to the interior of the line. He'll miss plenty of offseason activities but should be ready for training camp.

Jackson ruled out for Week 7

Although Steven Jackson worked out some this week, he's not quite ready for game action. The Rams already have ruled him out for Week 7's game, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Hopefully, he will be ready to return from his groin injury next week. Brian Leonard will start again in place of Jackson this week.

Bulger benching confirmed

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has confirmed an earlier report from Pro Football Talk that the Rams will bench Marc Bulger for a week or two. Scott Linehan is doing Bulger a huge favor by allowing his injured ribs to heal. Gus Frerotte will start in his place and can be used by fantasy owners against the Cardinals if they're really in need of a quarterback this week.

Bulger to the bench?

Will Gus Frerotte be under center for the Rams this Sunday? Pro Football Talk thinks so because they are reporting Marc Bulger will be benched because of his poor start to the season and his two broken ribs. Bulger has thrown for 765 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions this season. Neither the Rams nor another media outlet have not confirmed the report, so treat more as speculation until then. However, with Bulger battling broken ribs and the offensive line decimated by injuries, this move makes sense on a lot of levels. The Rams have thrown for over 300 yards in three straight games against the Cardinals, so Frerotte is an intriguing fantasy option this week if you're desperate.

Jackson blames it on the rain

Rams running back Steven Jackson believes the rain that fell throughout Sunday's game in Tampa was the key cause of his groin injury. "That heavy rain kind of tore up the field," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "They had a game there on Saturday (South Florida vs. North Carolina), so it was really muddy and the field was kind of sloppy. ... I was slipping throughout the game." Jackson has already been ruled out of this week's game and very likely will miss additional weeks. Stupid rain, costing fantasy owners their first-round pick.

Incognito gets some work in

Rams guard Richie Incognito was able to practice Wednesday despite the high ankle sprain which has kept him out all season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Incognito didn't see all the snaps at right guard Wednesday, but he should be able to increase his workload as the week progresses.

Jackson to miss three weeks?

The partially torn groin muscle that Steven Jackson suffered will likely keep him out two-to-three weeks, according to the St. Post-Dispatch. Jackson has already been ruled out of this week's game because of the injury, which was suffered in the fourth quarter of Week 3's loss to the Buccaneers. We're not sure how many doctors the Post-Dispatch have on their staff, but this seems like a reasonable estimate considering Jackson will be "week-to-week" after this Sunday. Brian Leonard owners could see him start against two mid-tier defenses, the Cowboys and Cardinals, over the next two weeks.

Tinoisamoa iffy for Sunday

An ankle injury has Pisa Tinoisamoa questionable for this week's game with the Buccaneers, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He missed last week's game because of the ailment. This isn't an official designation, of course. We'll have a much better idea of Tinoisamoa's availability after three days of practice. The Rams defense could really use him back in the lineup.

Incognito won't reappear this week

Rams guard Richie Incognito, who is battling a high ankle sprain, is not expected back for a week or two, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Getting Incognito, a starter for much of last season, back will help solidify the Rams offensive line and keep Marc Bulger upright a little longer. It should also provide Steven Jackson a few more holes through the interior of the line.

Rams: Bulger banged up

Rams quarterback Marc Bulger was sacked six times Sunday afternoon and felt the effects afterwards. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that he had sore ribs and a tender knee after the 17-16 loss to the 49ers. These ailments are not going to keep Bulger from playing in Week 3, but they may impact his play and limit the number of hits he can take before a more serious injury occurs.

Bulger dealing with sore ribs

Marc Bulger suffered an injury to his ribs Sunday but remained in the game. Bulger took numerous hits, as the Rams' makeshift line had trouble keeping the Niners out of the backfield. Bulger ended the day with nice numbers, passing for 368 yards and a score. We don't expect this to affect Bulger's status for next week, but we'll keep you posted.

Hill out indefinitely

Rams cornerback Tye Hill will be out indefinitely after a collision in practice Thursday in which it is believed he broke several small bones in his lower back, according to ESPN. The Rams defense is already a question mark and this injury will make it even easier to exploit them by playing matchups in fantasy. Sixth-year journeyman Lenny Walls will likely star in Hill's place.

Bennett is a go

Wide receiver Drew Bennett will make his Rams debut Sunday, according to ESPN. Bennett was forced to sit out the team's season opener with a quad injury

Incognito doesn't appear at practice

Rams guard Richie Incognito missed practice on Wednesday because of his injured ankle, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has a high ankle sprain. Incognito is a key part of the interior of the Rams offensive line. He missed last week's game and it is unlikely he'll play this Sunday.

Gorin signed

The Rams have signed offensive tackle Brandon Gorin to a contract. Gorin was on the Cardinals last season, but was inactive for 16 games. He is little more than a depth guy for the Rams, who need warm bodies because of injuries to their offensive line.

Holt practices

Rams receiver Torry Holt practiced on Tuesday despite his lingering knee injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The paper's beat writer said in his Tuesday chat that it is clear Holt is not 100 percent. Let's hope the Torry takes it easy during practices all year so he can suit up for 16 games.

Incognito questionable this week

Richie Incognito is still nursing a high ankle sprain that he sustained in Week 2 of the preseason. Coach Scott Linehan said Incognito remains questionable for the opener. "I don't know right now," Linehan said in the AP. "He's real limited. We'll determine that Friday." Incognito is a very good run blocker, but his potential absence isn't enough to hurt Steven Jackson's fantasy prospects too badly.

Bennett sits out practice w/ quad injury

Drew Bennett did not practice Tuesday due to a strained quad. However, Bennett expects to play on Sunday. The muscle "got tight" during Saturday's practice and Bennett has been getting treatment since then. "I'm doing fine and I expect to play," Bennett said in the AP. "I did a pretty good workout in the training room today. I'm anxious to make my debut. I want to be healthy." It sounds like Bennett will be good to go this week, but keep an eye out for updates. Either way, you should probably knock him down a few spots on your cheat sheets.

Pittman claimed

The Rams have claimed free agent running back Antonio Pittman. The rookie was cut by the Saints on Saturday. Pittman fell farther than expected in the draft and was cut by the Saints because they kept Pierre Thomas instead, so we're not too excited about his potential. He currently sits third on the Rams depth chart.

Smiths signs on

The Rams have signed cornerback Harrison Smith off the free agent market. Smith was undrafted when he came out of college in 2006 and will have his work cut out for him if he wants to earn a living playing professional football this season.
