Warner to remain in at the stripe

The Cardinals will keep quarterback Kurt Warner in at the goal line from now on, according to the East Valley Tribune. He was often removed in those situations because the team feared he was more susceptible to fumbles with his injured elbow. No more cheap touchdowns for Tim Rattay. This news gives Warner a slight boost in fantasy value going forward.

Boldin's future to be decided soon

The Cardinals will decide on Tuesday or Wednesday how to proceed with Anquan Boldin's latest injury, a dislocated toe, according to the East Valley Tribune. He suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Browns. Boldin also battled a hip injury earlier this season that cost him some games. There is a real chance the Cardinals shut Boldin down for the rest of the year if the pain is too great or they worry that he could dislocate the toe again.

Patrick promoted

The Cardinals signed rookie tight end Ben Patrick from their practice squad on Monday. Patrick, who was a favorite of draft wonks but fell to the seventh round, has no fantasy value. He does give the Cardinals more depth at the position, though.

Warner likely a game-time call

Kurt Warner took part in some practice again on Friday. However, he felt more discomfort in his injured left elbow than he did the day before, according to the Arizona Republic. Whether he will start Sunday likely will be a game-time call, but he's anything but a safe play, even if he gets the chance to start.

Boldin expected to sit out again

Anquan Boldin went through strenous workouts this week and is hopeful that he can practice next week. However, he's not expected to play on Sunday, according to the Arizona Republic. Boldin's listed as doubtful due to his ailing hip for this week, but there's at least a chance we'll see him on the field for Week 7.

Boldin misses another practice

Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin missed Wednesday's practice because of his sore hip and told the East Valley Tribune that he was unsure if he would be able to practice Thursday. Boldin owners should be making contingency plans again this week because it appears he'll be a game-time decision, at best, on Sunday.

Johnson rests

Cardinal wideout Bryant Johnson didn't practice Wednesday because of an injured quadriceps, according to the East Valley Tribune. Johnson would be the team's starter this weekend if Anquan Boldin can't play. The team doesn't believe Bryant's injury is serious.

Boldin inactive

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams due to a hip injury. He sat out last week with the same ailment. Bryant Johnson will start in place of Boldin. Johnson is an intriguing fantasy option against a Rams defense that gives up a lot of points.

Boldin out again

Cardinal wideout Anquan Boldin missed a third straight day of practice Friday because of his injured hip, according to the Arizona Republic. Boldin suffered the injury during last week's game and hasn't practiced all week. Consider him a game-time decision, but fantasy owners really shouldn't plan on having him available Sunday.

Boldin sits out

Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin did not practice Wednesday because of the hip injury he sustained during Sunday's loss to the Ravens, according to the team's website. Missing a Wednesday practice is no big deal, especially for a veteran, so fantasy owners should only begin to worry if Boldin doesn't suit up for tomorrow's session.

Leinart remaining the starter

The Cardinals will continue to use Matt Leinart as their starting quarterback. Ken Whisenhunt made the announcement during his Monday press conference, according to the Arizona Republic, one day after Kurt Warner replaced Leinart during part of the second half Sunday and finished with 258 yards. "It wasn't a situation where Matt didn't play well," Whisenhunt told the press. "Matt has worked hard and done what we asked him to do. He's improving as a quarterback, so he is our starter, like we said yesterday after the game." Whisenhunt brought up the fact Leinart suffered some dropped passes and the Ravens played a more conservative defense in the fourth quarter when explaining why he decided to stick with Matt. But as long as Warner remains a threat to come in during the game, Leinart's fantasy value will take a serious hit.

Boldin hurting

Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin suffered a hip injury on Sunday, but he played through it, according to the Arizona Republic. Boldin, who had 14 catches for 181 yards and two scores Sunday, may find his name on the Week 4 injury report. However, it appears the ailment will not hold him out of this week's battle with the Steelers.

Brown going in for MRI

The Cardinals first-round pick will be spending some quality time with the team doctors over the next few days. The Arizona Republic reports that Levi Brown will undergo an MRI exam on Monday to gage the severity of the ankle injury which knocked him out of Sunday's game with the Ravens. Elton Brown, who was drafted as a guard, moved over to tackle on Sunday and did a solid job in place of Levi. However, Edgerrin James owners will be hoping that Levi is able to return to action this Sunday.

Fitzgerald takes a blow to the head

Cardinal receiver Larry Fitzgerald suffered a head injury during the second half of Sunday's game, but was able to return, according to the Seattle Times. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, but if Fitz's name pops up on the injury report, you'll know why.

Johnson tweaks hamstring

Cardinals wide receiver Bryant Johnson hurt his hamstring in practice Friday and is a question mark for Sunday's game against Seattle, according to ESPN. Johnson will be reevaluated Saturday. Johnson doesn't have much fantasy value as long as Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald remain healthy.

Pace to get a shot

Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace will get a chance to compete with Darryl Blackstock for the starting job because of Chike Okeafor's injury, according to the Arizona Republic. Blackstock has the inside track right now, but Pace will get three preseason games to change Ken Whisenhunt's mind. Neither is a very strong prospect for those in IDP leagues.

Ross may be out for the year

Cardinals offensive tackle Oliver Ross suffered a torn left triceps during the team's first preseason game, according to the East Valley Tribune. If he elects to have surgery, Ross will be lost for the season. While this is a blow to the team's already perilously shallow depth on the offensive line, the Cardinals will simply give Ross' job to rookie Levi Brown, a move that was inevitable anyways.

Okeafor suffers a serious injury

The Cardinals defense took a big hit over the weekend when linebacker Chike Okeafor suffered a torn bicep. The East Valley Tribune reports that he is expected to seek a second opinion before deciding on surgery that would end his season before it began. Okeafor, who was playing outside linebacker as the Cardinals try to move to a 3-4 scheme, will likely be replaced in the lineup by Darryl Blackstock.

Warner sticking around

Kurt Warner has decided to play out the remainder of his contract, which expires after the 2008 season. "That's what I want to do, play out this contract," Warner told the Arizona Republic on Tuesday. "And I think after that, then it will be one of those situations where we sit down and decide what's best." Warner will turn 37 before his deal expires. Warner is scheduled to earn $4 million in each of the next two seasons. The bigger question seems to be whether the Cardinals are willing to pay him that much money to ride the bench in 2008.

Cardinals: Shipp in the mix

There's no denying that Edgerrin James will start at tailback for the Cardinals, but the Arizona Republic reports that Marcel Shipp will still play a significant role as a backup. The logic behind this report is that new head coach Ken Whisnenhunt is high on Shipp and feels that his straight ahead style will offer a nice change of pace for James. I'll be watching closely to see which back gets the goal line carries during the preseason games.
