No Bush in practice

Saints running back Reggie Bush was not at practice Wednesday. The New Orleans Time-Picayune reports he's suffering from a bone bruise in his left knee, although Bush expects to play on Sunday. "The knee is good," Bush said. "There's nothing broken, nothing torn or anything like that. Just a normal, everyday football injury you go through. We're just taking precautionary (measures) to get ready for this game." Bush says the injury occurred during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game and didn't begin to bother him until later in the evening. We'll track his practice attendance all week, but as of now you can plan on using him in Week 10.

Fujita out

Scott Fujita will not play in Sunday's game against the Panthers. His name appears on the inactive list due to a sprained ankle. Fujita missed some practice time during the week, so his absence shouldn't be a huge surprise to IDP owners.

McAllister has surgery

Deuce McAllister underwent surgery to repair his left ACL. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that he also had a minor "clean-up" surgery on his right knee, which was repaired back in 2005. McAllister will miss the remainder of the season, but team officials believe he'll be ready for training camp in 2008.

David injured

Jason David will miss up to six weeks with a fractured left forearm, according to Tuesday's New Orleans Times-Picayune. Jason Craft is expected to replace David in the starting lineup. David is giving up a rough average of two deep passes per game. He hasn't lived up to the hype since he signed with the Saints as a free agent during the offseason, and there's no reason to save him a spot on your IDP roster.

McAllister may be lost for season

Preliminary reports indicate that Deuce McAllister tore the ACL in his left knee and will likely miss the remainder of the season, according to ESPN.com. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday to verify the diagnosis. McAllister suffered the injury during Monday's loss to the Titans. He tore his right ACL back in 2005. It can't get much worse for the Saints, who are 0-3 and appear to be without McAllister for the remainder of the season. Reggie Bush will become the primary back, although the Saints mixed in Aaron Stecker when McAllister rested last season. Bush's value increases due to the extra playing time he should receive. However, he's struggled to get anything going on the ground this season. Just to be on the safe side, we caution against cutting McAllister until the severity of his injury is confirmed.

McAllister sits out

Deuce McAllister did not practice on Wednesday due to a right knee injury. "I back off of him and just had him sit," McAllister told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "We'll see where he's at tomorrow, but he should be fine." McAllister is expected to play on Monday against the Titans. We'll keep close tabs on McAllister's practice habits throughout the week. He has surgery to repair partially torn meniscus in the same knee back in February, as well as ACL surgery back in 2005.

Henderson acknowledges benching

Devery Henderson confessed that his poor play was most likely responsible for his lack of playing time during the second half of Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers. "I have to accept that," Henderson told the New Orleans Times-Piacyune. "Obviously, I want to win. I have to trust what he's (Sean Payton) doing. Me not being out there is disappointing to me, but it is what it is." Henderson dropped three passes and missed an assignment during the first half of the game. Like most of his teammates, Henderson has been a huge disappointment to fantasy owners thus far. Although nothing is official, we assume that he'll be back in the starting lineup for Monday's tilt with the Titans.

Campbell ruled out

Saints tight end Mark Campbell will not play in week two against the Buccaneers, according to ESPN. Eric Johnson will remain the team's starter at tight end when when Campbell returns to the field.

Campbell sits out

Mark Campbell did not practice on Wednesday due to the back injury that prevented him from playing in Week 1. "Right now there is no status reporting other than that he did not practice," head coach Sean Payton told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "We don't have to report status today." The Saints like to feature Eric Johnson in the passing game, whereas Campbell is a better blocking tight end. In other words, Campbell lacks fantasy value.

Campbell feeling better

Mark Campbell is feeling better after sitting out Week 1 with a back injury, head coach Sean Payton told Tuesday's New Orleans Times-Picayune. However, his status for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers has not been determined. Campbell doesn't catch many passes. If you're going to have a Saints tight end on your fantasy roster, make it Eric Johnson.

Brown improving

The bone bruise on Saints offensive tackle Jammal Brown's knee is improving and head coach Sean Payton told the New Orleans Time-Picayune that he may return as soon as next week. Brown is working out indoors during his recovery. As long as Brown is ready for the season opener, he can take as long as he needs to recover. He is a key part of the Saints line.

Henderson out a couple weeks

Saints receiver Devery Henderson will be forced to miss about two weeks because of the hamstring injury suffered in Friday's game, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Head coach Sean Payton told the paper there is a Grade 2 strain. While a Grade 2 strain isn't ideal, Henderson dodged a bullet because tests showed that he didn't suffer a tear. This is good news for rookie Robert Meachem, who should see more snaps over the next couple weeks with Devery out.

Meachem struggling

Rookie Robert Meachem's struggles continued during practice on Thursday. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that he appeared to tweak his right knee while making a cut. He continued practicing but was noticeably hobbling. Meachem has been a big disappointment thus far. He's currently considered the sixth receiver on the depth chart. Barring a miraculous turn of events, Meachem will not unseat Devery Henderson for the second starting job this summer.

Brown gets good news

The Saints dodged a bullet when tests determined that Jammal Brown suffered a bone bruise to his right knee and not something more serious, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. His status for upcoming practices has not been revealed. Losing Brown for an extended period of time would have been a huge blow to the Saints, who don't count offensive line depth among their strengths. I'll keep fantasy owners updated on Brown's status as further information is released.

Saints: Meachem inks five-year deal

The Saints signed rookie Robert Meachem to a five-year contract on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. "Robert has worked hard since he joined our team and we expect more of that to come in training camp and beyond," general manager Mickey Loomis told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The Saints selected Meachem with the No. 27 overall pick in the draft. Meachem got off to a rough start by reporting to minicamp overweight and then undergoing minor knee surgery. Signing and reporting to training camp on time is definitely a step in the right direction. He will spend his summer competing for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind Marques Colston.

Saints: Young injured

Brian Young is expected to miss the opening days of training camp after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured foot, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported on Wednesday. He is expected to return during training camp. The Saints have not set an official return date for Young, but it appears as though he'll only miss a few practices. His backups include Kendrick Clancy, Antwan Lake, and Rodney Leisle.

Saints: Jones inks one-year deal

The Saints signed free agent linebacker Dhani Jones to a one-year contract on Thursday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He started 13 games for the Eagles last season. Don't look now but the Saints actually have some depth at linebacker, which was the soft spot of their defense last season. Jones is slated to back up Scott Fujita on the strong side, and the team previously signed Brian Simmons for depth purposes.

Saints: Pittman signs

The Saints signed rookie Antonio Pittman to a three-year contract on Thursday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Saints selected Pittman in the fourth round of the draft.
Pittman will most likely spend his season watching Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush from the sideline. In other words, he should not be among the rookies targeted by fantasy owners.

Saints: Mitchell signs

The Saints signed rookie linebacker Marvin Mitchell to a three-year contract, according to Tuesday's New Orleans Times-Picayune. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The Saints selected Mitchell in the seventh round of the draft. Mitchell will compete for a roster spot this summer and warrants no IDP consideration.
