Cowboys: Ellis doesn't last long

Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis opened training camp on the field, but he didn't last long. He stopped practicing after less than 30 minutes due to pain in his left Achilles tendon. He tore the ligament last November. "That one drill that caused the pain is the closest thing I do to football and that's taking on blockers," Ellis explains to the Dallas Morning News. "You can't simulate that. It was nothing he did. He was just doing a drill, and I just got the problem." He underwent an MRI as a precaution. The site also notes that Ellis is on the sidelines in shorts on Thursday morning. With Ellis hobbled and first-round pick Anthony Spencer unsigned, the Cowboys will have to dig for options at left outside linebacker. Alex Obomese is currently running with the first team, which is far from the ideal scenario.
