The Colts signed defensive end Dwight Freeney to a six-year, $72 million contract that makes him the highest paid defensive player in the history of the NFL, according to the Indianapolis Star. Freeney's agent confirmed to the Star that the contract includes a $30 million signing bonus. Just think what those numbers would be if Freeny wouldn't have underachieved last season when he recorded just five and a half sacks. Of course, the deal assumes he'll be a whole lot more like the player who rolled up 51 sacks in his first four seasons. And if he is, he'll move back up near the tip-top of the IDP rankings.
