It turns out the 49ers are not seeking a second opinion on Alex Smith's injured shoulder after all. The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Smith will not head to Alabama to see Dr. James Andrews, but instead a copy of Smith's MRI results will be sent to the good doctor. The paper calls this a standard procedure. While this means Smith's season is probably not over, it will be several weeks before he can return to the field. That will give Trent Dilfer plenty of time to remind us that he's terrible and over the hill.
