Ellis puts on pads

Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis put on pads and practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday. It was his first such session since the first day of training camp. He is dealing with left heel bursitis, an ailment that has popped up as he recovers from a torn left Achilles. Ellis did not go at full speed on Wednesday and is still dealing with pain, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Achilles tears often require a 12-to-18-month recovery period, and Ellis is sitting at about 10 months. Thus, it's not at all surprising that he's not ready yet. The Cowboys would love to have him rushing off the left edge, but we don't expect to see him on a Sunday soon. Rookie Anthony Spencer is starting in his place.
